iPhone Battery Draining Fast? 5 Things to Check

Battery drain can be caused by screen brightness, background activity, weak cellular signal, or an aging battery.

Follow these steps in order, stopping when the issue is fixed. Menu names may vary by model and software version.

Find the apps using power

Open Settings > Battery and review usage by app. A recently updated app or long navigation session may explain a temporary spike.

Check battery health

In Settings, find Battery Health (the exact menu name varies by model). If the battery has degraded significantly, ask Apple about service options.

Reduce screen power use

Lower brightness, enable Auto-Brightness if you prefer, and shorten Auto-Lock. Always-on display settings can also affect battery life on supported models.

Review background activity

Check Background App Refresh and location permissions. Limit unnecessary background access, but keep features you rely on.

Check signal and updates

Poor cellular reception can increase power use. Install iOS updates and allow a day or two after a major update for background processing to settle.

Helpful tip

If the phone becomes unusually hot, swells, or shuts off unexpectedly, stop charging it and seek professional support.
