Wi-Fi Keeps Disconnecting? How to Find the Cause
Repeated Wi-Fi drops may come from weak coverage, router instability, or a single device losing its connection.
Follow these steps in order, stopping when the issue is fixed. Menu names may vary by model and software version.
See whether all devices disconnect
When the problem happens, check another phone or computer. If every device drops at once, investigate the router or internet provider.
Move closer to the router
Test for a while in the same room as the router. If the connection improves, distance or interference is likely involved.
Restart network equipment
Restart the router and modem, if separate. Do not press the factory-reset button, which can erase your network configuration.
Update your device and router
Check the device operating system and router firmware using the manufacturer’s official instructions.
Check a single-device issue
If only one device disconnects, restart it. Forget and rejoin Wi-Fi only if you know the password. If the issue began after changing VPN settings, test with the VPN disconnected.
Helpful tip
Write down when drops occur and whether the Wi-Fi symbol disappears or the internet alone stops working. That distinction helps identify the cause.
